Community Wellness & Education

A Lyngblomsten outreach service providing education, health assessments, and resources for seniors as physical and mental changes occur during the aging process.

Maintain your health.
Maintain your independence.

These programs reach hundreds of seniors each year through Lyngblomsten’s corporate congregations, at area sites where seniors gather, and during weekly office hours with the Community Wellness Nurse at Lyngblomsten Community Center.

With the help available through Lyngblomsten community outreach programs, seniors can retain their independence, maintain their social life, prevent devastating illnesses, and learn how to preserve their health.

Assessments

Health Screening

This service provides the opportunity to ask a registered nurse about health concerns and issues about remaining independent as health needs change. The nurse meets with seniors at area churches, senior housing, and community centers in designated locations on a regular basis.  The nurse is available to perform health screening services such as blood pressure and pulse assess-ments, Vitamin B-12 shots to those for whom it is prescribed, and fasting blood sugar levels.  This service is also available at the nurse's office located in the Lyngblomsten Community Center.

Flu Prevention

We offer annual flu shots because we understand the devastating effects this illness can have on your vitality and health.  Flu shots are available on Lyngblomsten's campus as well as at the sites we visit monthly around the community.

We strive to make preventative healthcare easily accessible.

Education

Caregiver Support Group

Community Wellness & Education facilitates a monthly support group for people who are helping a friend or older family member manage needs they can no longer handle alone.  The group emphasizes caring for ourselves while caring for others.

Monthly Education

Once a month, Community Wellness & Education hosts “‘Donut’ Make You Wonder?,” presentations by experts in various areas of wellness held at the Lyngblomsten Community Center.  These sessions include time for questions.  Topics range from healthy eating to healthcare directives to safety and prescription drugs.

Information

As your medical needs change, there are often questions regarding health, medications, and the resources available in the community.  We can help you work through the maze of services.  Our Community Wellness & Education Nurse can give you information or direct you to the resources you need to make informed decisions regarding your health care.  It is our hope that we can take some of the worry out of your medical decisions.
