Together through thick and thin

Two women who met four years ago at the Lyngblomsten Community Center are always there for each other--whether it's for bingo and lunch or their back-to-back orthopedic surgeries.

Governor Proclaims February 17 "Lyngblomsten Day" in Minnesota

Saint Paul
, Minn. -- In recognition of the contributions of the founders of Lyngblomsten and its successors, Governor Tim Pawlenty has proclaimed Friday, February 17, 2006, "Lyngblomsten Day" in Minnesota.  Friday marks  the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of Lyngblomsten, a Christian nonprofit senior healthcare and housing facility headquartered in St. Paul near Como Park Zoo.  On Friday, Minnesotans are encouraged to do something nice for an elderly person and to wear purple--the color of the lyng, the national flower of Norway, for which Lyngblomsten is named.

 The Governor's proclamation reads as follows:

WHEREAS, on February 17, 1906, eleven Norwegian immigrant women gathered to incorporate a society for the purpose of building and operating a Christian home for the aged, they named their new organization "The Lyngblomsten Society" in honor of the Lyng, the national flower of Norway;

WHEREAS since that time, Lyngblomsten has grown into an organization providing a variety of services for the elderly including a skilled nursing care center, senior housing, and an extensive array of support services in the community;

WHEREAS Lyngblomsten is widely recognized for developing innovative programs to help the elderly maintain their independence;

WHEREAS through its affiliation with more than three dozen congregations of various Christian faiths throughout the Twin Cities area, it has encouraged volunteers and donors to be actively involved in providing care for the elderly members of our community.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM PAWLENTY, Governor of Minnesota, in recognition of the contributions of the founders of Lyngblomsten and its successors and supporters, do hereby proclaim, that February 17, 2006, shall be observed as LYNGBLOMSTEN DAY in the State of Minnesota.

The anniversary day will be marked with a special concert party on campus.  Then on Sunday, February 19, at 2:00 PM, a special Centennial Celebration Worship Service will be held at the Chapel of the Incarnation at Luther Seminary, 1490 Fulham Street, St. Paul.  A reception will follow.  Everyone from the community is invited to attend.
